Alexander Hamilton/John Witherspoon

. . . a very special offer . . .

Published by the Family Research Council, and distributed by PrestonSpeed Publications.

John Witherspoon and Alexander Hamilton. Both of these men had important roles in the founding of our country.
Alexander Hamilton needs less introduction perhaps, as he is almost universally recognized as the man who was killed by Aaron Burr in a duel, but his life as a patriot, a soldier, a lawyer, and an apologist for freedom is perhaps less well known. Hamilton served for a time as General Washington's aide-de-camp, was sent as a delegate to the Continental congress, and was appointed Secretary of the Treasury during Washington's administration. He was the author of several important articles in support of the American War for Independence, and later, of articles on economics. Hamilton was staunchly anti-slavery.

John Witherspoon has the distinction of being the only practising clergyman who signed the Declaration of Independence; he served as a member of the Continental Congress for six years, and was a signer of the Articles of Confederation. A Presbyterian minister, he was president
for many years of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), and his most enduring legacy is perhaps that of his students, great numbers of whom went on to become professors at institutions throughout the nation, as well as congressmen, senators, judges, and foreign ministers.

Both books contain numerous illustrations from the period in which Witherspoon and Hamilton lived, including reproductions of documents, architecture, maps, and portraits, a number of which are in full color. Important source documents are also included in the appendices.

These books are wonderful resources for young people and adults alike. As biographies, they will serve well as an introduction to these two notable men; as source material for study or reporting on the Revolutionary Period, they are excellent.

80-88 pp. Trade paper, 7" x 9-1/2"
